Sandhi Governance Institute

Sandhi in Sanskrit means “connection” or “union.” The organization was founded in 2008 by two graduates with Master’s degrees in Public Policy, with the purpose of nurturing capable leadership in politics and civil society organizations.

Sandhi’s vision is to create a society where social justice and democratic governance prevail. Our mission is to promote democratic governance in Myanmar, guided by the belief in building a just, democratic, and open society.

In line with this vision and mission, Sandhi’s main objectives are to:

  • Enhance the leadership capacity of individuals committed to nation-building, particularly in policy-making and in the monitoring and evaluation of public policies

  • Increase transparency and accountability in the public sector

  • Strengthen the participation of all key stakeholders in public affairs and major investments.

Our main programs include training and research. Sandhi provides training in organizational development (OD), local and economic governance, community development, and fiscal federalism, along with workshops and individual mentorship for civil society leaders and emerging leaders. The organization also publishes research reports, articles, and issue briefings on topics related to social justice and democratic governance.
